NCS’s mission and core values define and guide our shared community life and are central to the everyday NCS experiences at NCS. Our core values–excellence, service, courage, and conscience–provide a means to approach our work and play. They aren’t final goals to be achieved, but practices that we carry out, to the best of our abilities, every day.

Our Core Values

National Cathedral School lives by these core values:

We strive to offer our best work, to maintain the highest standards, and to set goals within a context that honors the contributions and achievements of the entire community.
Service
We believe we have an obligation to make a difference in the world, to contribute to the greater good, and to respond with purpose to the needs of others.
Courage
We act with conviction, strength, and integrity. We stand up for ourselves and others.
Conscience
We work to develop an abiding sense of right and wrong, and are guided by that moral sense, seek ethical responses to life’s challenges. We act toward others with kindness, respect, and compassion.

We bring this commitment to life by providing students with opportunities to learn from one another and to develop a deep understanding of the world around them. 

  • Through our thoughtfully curated curriculum, Coordinate Program, and array of extra- and co-curricular activities, students gain exposure to a wide variety of perspectives, experiences, and ideas.

     

  • Our Center for Ethical Leadership & Service provides students with the opportunity to build an understanding of themselves, their own community, and communities around the world.

Defining the Power of Young Women

Every NCS student is unique and so is the power she holds within herself. At NCS, we believe power takes many forms. It can be obvious, subtle, individual, collective, intellectual, emotional, artistic, showing up in different combinations for different people and purposes. Our goal is to help each student uncover and build the power that only she possesses, so that she can achieve her aspirations and change the world. 

Uncovering each student's power involves discovering who she is, identifying her passions, forging her sense of self, and determining how she wants to show up in the world. As students tap into their powers, they become confident advocates, empathetic leaders, change makers, problem solvers, and resilient learners.
